[REVIEW] COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

When I first started researching about Korean skincare products for acne-prone skin, there was one brand that kept popping up everywhere; COSRX. Their goal is to create effective skincare products that contain safe and natural ingredients. Compared to other skincare brands, their ingredients list are very minimal but have been proven to be effective through numerous rounds of testing. Their products can be used on every skin type including sensitive and acne prone skin types. Their formulations are potent enough to get rid of those pesky pimples and blackheads but are also gentle enough to be used on sensitive skin.

One of the first COSRX products that I ever tried was the Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence.

COSRX uses very minimal packaging for their products so that they can focus more of their budget into further improving their formulations and creating new products. Personally, I'm a big fan of the minimalistic look (if you couldn't tell already by my Instagram feed) because it will look lovely displayed on your shelf.

The bottle that the product comes in is equipped with a pump head. This not only makes it easier to dispense the product but also keeps things sanitary by preventing any bacteria transfer from your hands into the product.

This essence actually contains 96% snail mucin (snail secretion filtrate) hence the 96 in the name. At first, I was a bit intimidated by snail mucin as well because I thought it was icky and gross and wondered why anyone would put that on their face. However, I continued to do more research to learn that snail mucin is a great natural moisturizer. It can also help repair damaged skin by increasing the speed of cell turnover, reduce redness and prevent wrinkles. All these benefits are great however what really sold me was that it could help with acne and hyper-pigmentation such as acne scarring.

When you first dispense the product from the bottle, a clear, viscous liquid comes out. There isn't any scent to it, so don't be alarmed. It is slightly sticky and it takes a bit of time before it fully absorbs into your skin. However, after about 5 minutes, you won't feel anything on your skin at all. I have oily skin and this product doesn't make my face shiny or break me out at all.

I apply this essence after cleansing and toning in the morning and evening. I've been using this for just over 2 months now and I've noticed that my skin is significantly softer. My acne scars have lightened slightly but nothing dramatic has happened yet. My sister also uses this and between the both of us, we've almost finished the first bottle and I just ordered one last week for backup.

This product is very affordable and can do a lot for your skin if you give it a bit of time to work its magic. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting to try out Korean skincare as it can work for every skin type.
